Catfish Concerts welcomes Texas songwriters Drew Kennedy and Matt Harlan on July 9!
Over the past decade, Kennedy has devoted his life to writing and performing his songs his way for anyone who cares. The 35-year-old has a catalog seven-albums deep, including 2013’s high watermark Wide Listener (check out the Lori McKenna co-write “Rose of Jericho”). Meanwhile, Kennedy has written a novel, created a music festival and an established an ever-growing group of admirers comprising elite peers and everyday listeners. He’s simply reimagined what it means to be a contemporary songwriter, both artistically and entrepreneurially. “I don’t want to ever stop approaching this,” Kennedy says, “as a student of popular song or the craft of writing.”
Catfish favorite Harlan returns for his second full show in the yard. (In addition to being one of our very first performers in 2013, Harlan has played our Townes tribute several times.) Fans call the longtime Houston resident a troubadour of the first degree, one who brings his handcrafted songs to stages across the Lone Star State as well as the entire United States and Europe. Harlan, who has recorded four albums, including the new In the Dark with Rachel Jones, contributed the previously unrecorded original “The Time Is Now” to The Polished Steel Sessions, which raises funds for the Cheatham Street Woodshed studio in San Marcos, Texas. ” Support The Music ($15 advance donation or $20 at the door).

“The cool thing about Catfish Concerts is that it really has the feel of when I was a kid in South Austin, except you guys are way too calm and take it way to seriously.” – John Townes Van Zandt II
“Catfish Concerts is among the most intimate, friendly, inspired and inspirational house concerts in the country and most likely the world. It’s like hanging out with your favorite folks in a treehouse built by your favorite uncle, the one who paints and write poems all day. I’ll tell you what I think Catfish is: a genuine piece of heaven that you can touch with your hands while you drink good local beer and listen to great songs. Thank you, Jenni and Brian, for creating such a space and event.” – Walt Wilkins
